There are huge range of courses offered in colleges and universities in India. Here are the courses after 12th offered in various streams.

Engineering is, by far, one of the conventional and career oriented courses in the country. According to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), around 1 million students graduate from polytechnics, government universities and private colleges all the year round. According to the branch and institute you select, an engineering course costs up to Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 1 million in India.

Law

Law students enjoy huge demand in India. According to the Universities Grant Commission, around 400,000 students graduate every year with law degrees. The BA, LLB (Bachelor of Arts and Legum Baccalaureus) is the 5 year course offered in most government law colleges. It costs somewhere from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 300,000, as per the university.

Some of the common courses are Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Science (BAMS), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Science (MBBS), Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Science (BHMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Science (BUMS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). A typical medical course costs from Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 1 million.

Chartered Accountant

For higher studies, Chartered Accountancy is the best choice. According to the amount of time required, you are flexible to work and study with this 3 to 5 year course. It is, indeed, important to work with study. The exam and course is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The cost of the course is around Rs. 50000.

Web Designing, IT

Today, a lot of foreign companies are in search of IT experts and India has been the best choice. Up to 100,000 students every year enroll for web design and IT courses. A lot of engineering students are also switching to IT courses. Some of the best IT courses are Bachelor of Computer Management and Bachelor of Computer Science offered by several universities and colleges. The cost of a typical 3-year course is from Rs. 400,000 to Rs. 1 million, according to the university/college.

Other Courses

Post 12th, the course you choose will decide your career choices in future. Unfortunately, Indian youth is suffering from “Me Too” philosophy. They choose a particular course just because their friends are choosing it, rather than thinking out of the box. Here are some of the best courses offering great career options but are still overlooked –

♦ Agriculture (including floriculture and horticulture)
♦ Forensic sciences
♦ Geology
♦ Marine biology
♦ Pyrotechnics
♦ Warehousing and logistics
♦ Nutrition
♦ Micro biology
♦ Food technology
♦ Industrial security and safety

Verdict

While going for courses after 12, you need to consider various factors. Indian youth is more focused on engineering, medicine, and IT. They prefer courses that give them a label to improve their social status. Indians choose degrees for their matrimonial and social aspects, instead of their profitability and interest. Also parents don’t allow them to follow their own dreams. Well, there is no lack of career choices once you are open to them.
