10 Must-Follow Tips to Prepare for CAT 2016

By |Categories: Blog|Tags: , , , , , |

CAT, Common Admission Test is the most sought after examination. Almost every graduate who aspires to attain a post-graduate degree in management courses refers to this exam because it is the only MBA entrance examination, which is accepted by all Management institutes. Moreover, it is also the only one mode to get admission into the premium institutes of India, IIMs (Indian Institute of Management). CAT 2016 is scheduled to be held on 4th December 2016 by IIIM Bangalore.

Due to the above-mentioned facts, the competition level becomes immensely high, hence, an aspirant should have the complete knowledge of what to study and when to study. So, we have listed some most follow tips for the aspirants to crack the CAT 2016 Examination with good marks.

1. Know the Syllabus & Pattern

The foremost task of an aspirant is to know what is the examination pattern and syllabus of the CAT. Alongside you have to check the marking schemes and analysis of previous year question paper to get an idea on the high scoring section.

There are three sections-
• Section I:- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
• Section II- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
• Section III- Quantitative Ability

Every section needs a different strategic approach for preparation. Hence, first know which section needs more time and which one you can prepare in minimum time and then start planning your schedule accordingly.

2. Make a Study Plan

Now, as you are well-aware of the examination pattern and the syllabus, it is the time to make a study plan and follow the same with dedication. Note that without the dedication and a proper study plan, qualifying the exam becomes next to impossible no matter how much you have studied.

3. Online Mock Tests are Necessary

Online Mock Tests are very important for all the aspirants to ace an exam such as CAT 2016, since it will be held in online mode only. These Online tests will help the candidates to get familiar with the environment of the examination. Hence, the more mock tests you attempt, the more comfortable you will be at the time of examination. You can join CAT online test series for the same. This will also help you in managing your time during the CAT Exam.

4. Analyze your performance

While preparing for CAT Exam, aspirants must analyze their performance on weekly basis. It is the best method to check how much improvement you require and the section in which you are best. Mridul Rajput, an IIM Udaipur student who has attained 98.4 percentile in CAT 2014 said, “I focused on taking mocks and especially on analysis and improving my weaknesses,”

5. Know Your Strength and Weaknesses

To get the most out of your performance, it is a must to know the section on which you have a good hold and the section which is your weakest. You can get this analysis by practicing mock tests. This practice will help you in improving your preparation. Once you know your weaknesses, you need to concentrate on them as you proceed. Devote extra hours to the weakest sections and solve more queries.

6. Make Notes

Always prepare short notes while studying so that you save time in revising the same. Do not copy the notes for others instead prepare your own notes and use them while solving the questions. It will help you to memorize the topics and formulas in a better way.

7. Practice Hard

Without practicing the concepts and implementing the formulas all study is a waste. It is possible that after few days you will not remember what the actual concept is. Hence, make it mandatory on yourself to practice well after learning the concept.

8. Perfection is the Key

Unless you become a perfectionist, qualifying the CAT Exam will remain a dream. Do consider that just qualifying the CAT Exam is not enough. If you want to get admission in IIMS, you must master the concepts and tricks.

9. Revise as Much You Can

Your preparation may hit a snag if you don’t revise. Hence, never skip revising already prepared topics. Revision will help keep every concept fresh in your mind.

10. Relax Well Before D-Day

Stressing too much can decrease your retaining capability, hence, never forget to stay calm. Relax well. Give yourself ample breaks so that you can refresh your mind and avoid stress. Never start a new topic in the last week before the exam. The last week should be dedicated to the practice and attempting online tests.

For adding more to your preparation, RobomatePlus provides interactive video lectures for the CAT aspirants. The success is the outcome of dedication and honest efforts. So, just do your best in the exam and wait for the result.
