Harish Chandra Verma popularly known as H C Verma was born in Bihar, India on April 3, 1952. He was not interested in his studies throughout his school life. As a student who struggled for passing marks, it was an achievement when he received a B.Sc degree in Physics by securing a third rank in the Patna University.

He joined IIT Kanpur for M.Sc where he scored 9.9 out of 10 and presented himself as a top-student. Since he was keen on further studies, he completed his doctorate within three years at IIT Kanpur. Verma started his career as a lecturer where he started teaching to students at various levels including students of 11th and 12th standards as well. In 1994, he joined IIT Kanpur as an Assistant Professor . He authorised a book “Quantum Physics” and taught many PhD students. Apart from this he also pursued research in nuclear physics.
