WHAT DO 100 PERCENTILERS IN CAT DO DIFFERENTLY?

By |Categories: Blog, CAT|

Prepare with Sustained Intensity but stop being a maniac

It is very important to prepare not only with intensity, but with sustained intensity. 100 Percentilers do not prepare with intensity in the months of May-June-July and then lose it or let it lie down in the months of August-Sept-Oct- There needs to be a consistent and a sustained intensity level while preparing for CAT and aiming at high percentile. Keep in mind that one should not overthink and overstress oneself while getting into intense CAT preparation mode.

Grasping power and background matters

Most of the 100 Percentilers complement their background and experience. For example most of the 100 Percentilers who were engineers were having a strong grasp on Quantitative Aptitude and the ones who were having B.com or B.A as their background made sure that their verbal ability was very strong. If one is a full time student one can dedicate 6 hours of preparation a day whereas working professional faces a time crunch and can opt to spend more time on weekends.

Cut the noise and prepare only what is needed

100 Percentilers in CAT do not prepare anything and everything thrown at them. They analyze the important topics, difficulty level from different topics and plan their preparation accordingly.

They don’t chase 100 percentile

Keeping the mind free is the name of the game. Most of the toppers are well rested as they approach the D-DAY. They develop a sense of joy in solving questions and puzzles without having a general thought that usually students‟ have-“I need to get X‟ percentile in this Mock or Main Exam”.

Golden Point: Tons of practice and taking the practice test early

Enough of basic questions should be solved in order to get a fair idea about a particular topic because at the end CAT is all about solving fundamental questions. After completing the basic study material 100 Percentilers focus on building up speed by giving sectional tests. Post which they actually test their understanding of the topic by solving previous year CAT questions. The next step is to attempt and analyze the mocks (spending 4-5 hours for analysis).

100 Percentilers believe in focusing on individual assessment and not comparing self to anyone else

100 Percentilers strongly believe that “one who wins is the one who thinks he/she can”. Toppers suggest, the beginners that, “The moment they believe they can do, there should be stopping and it’s all about changing the perception about themselves”

Tanvi Bhogal, a story of determination and digital revolution

By |Categories: Blog, SSC|Tags: , |

If the odds are stacked against someone to achieve outstanding scores in exams then that person is Tanvi Bhogal. The daughter of a peon, she lives in a noisy neighborhood, so studying at home is an undertaking by itself. Admission to an expensive coaching class was not an option so instead of choosing a mediocre alternative she decided to study by herself. If those were not big enough problems she added another challenge and is determined to be a doctor.

Tanvi Bhogal, achieved 97.60% in the Maharashtra Board SSC Examination and has been covered by major national newspapers for her achievement. What makes her story worth reading is how she beat the odds. Her teachers at Mulund Vidya Mandir pitched in to give her extra time whenever it was possible for them. Coming back from school Tanvi had to finish her homework. After that, once the noisy neighborhood had settled down for the evening she used to sit down to study till late in the night. However, many concepts in science and languages including English and Marathi were not clear to her. At this point her cousin suggested the use of Robomate+ since it has video lectures, model tests and previous years’ question papers.

Tanvi found the detailed explanations on Robomate+ very helpful because they cleared her concepts. In Robomate+ she found a study companion with whom she could learn anytime and anywhere. Sitting for hours at length to study even after school Tanvi was able to achieve the score which will now allow her to get admission to top science colleges and achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. Tanvi’s story highlights the fact that digital solutions are now taking over traditional tuitions and are viewed as a viable study option. Tanvi Bhogal, you truly are an achiever.

CAT Study Plan

By |Categories: Blog, CAT|Tags: |

With just 6 months to go for CAT 2018, this is the right time to set the wheel in motion. In this article, let us see about the CAT study plan that one should adopt.

How to draft a CAT study plan?

Mainly, the study plans that an aspirant adopts must suit him. It is important for him to know his strengths and weaknesses in order to draft a plan that suits his requirements. An aspirant must try to score well in his strong areas to improve his overall score.

CAT preparation timeline:

In general, CAT aspirants must dedicate at least an hour and a half each day in the initial months. As we move closer to CAT, aspirants must try to dedicate close to 3 hours a day for CAT preparation. Also, aspirants must ensure that they dedicate time for all the sections.

RC questions depend a lot on the ability to comprehend the information given. Therefore, it is always wise to first develop a reading habit. Also, it is essential for the aspirants to get a flavour of all genres.

We can classify the preparation phase broadly into 3 time periods.

1. From May to July: Strengthening the basics

Aspirants must spend the period from May to July entirely on strengthening the basics of each topic. They must avoid rushing through the topics during this phase. By the end of July, aspirants must be through with all the basic concepts.

Ideally, aspirants should start taking mocks from May. Aspirants must try to take one mock a week during this phase and slowly increase the frequency.

2. From July to September: Building speed

Aspirants must spend the period from May to July entirely on building speed. The study plan during this week must take time factor into account. Solving a lot of questions will help aspirants to retain the concepts in memory and acquaint themselves with various types of problems that appear in the exam. The target should be to solve at least 2-3 mocks every week.

3. October and November

In the final months, aspirants must take 3-4 mocks every week. Only taking the mock tests is not going to be any value if it is not followed by timely analysis of those tests. Proper analysis helps the aspirant understand the examiner’s logic in deriving the answer, the correct approach to be adopted, and his strong and weak areas.
