IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation Tips by Toppers

By |Categories: Blog, JEE ADVANCED, JEE MAIN|Tags: , , , , |

Question:

Other big question which we typically get from students is that:  There is so much material out there. There are so many books for IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation.  Many students go to institutions or go for coaching or online so there’s so much material existing. There are also so many tests. Every subject and topic probably has at least 10 or 15 volumes of books available. How do you focus? How do you choose? What to study? How much to study? Are 200 questions enough or 2000 questions enough?

Answer from Expert Teacher:

A teacher knows his student very well. Therefore, the trust in the teacher is very important. Whatever the teacher is suggesting, on that particular moment you should go ahead and do that. Most of the time I have seen that many kids purchase books recommended by IIT Toppers for the sake of purchasing. A teacher might be suggesting a particular book. I as a teacher may suggest another book for IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation. Different teachers have different suggestions. But if you are focused on one mentor he will tell you to focus on one particular book. Most students are going to some Institute or the other. Usually institute material is enough for the first round of preparation and I think with that additional one book, not multiple books in a particular subject, that one book should be followed because theory as well as questions are very important for IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation. Especially when it comes to chemistry. Most of the students do not focus on theory. Therefore reading books recommended by IIT Toppers is very important and whatever your teacher suggests you should follow.

Shubham Goel, AIR 6 (IIT JEE Advanced 2014)

The teacher very often will suggest a book which is suited for you and it is better than covering a lot of books, I feel what is important as a student is to cover and finish the book very well. Studying the content well is more important than studying a lot of content. If you pick up any one book you will find that it is written comprehensively. Pick up any one popular book, say HC Verma. A lot of people feel that HC Verma isn’t sufficient. But I personally feel if you read each and every chapter, each and every line of HC Verma and if you attempt each and every question in HC Verma and understand the different ways of attempting that question then that book is sufficient for your IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation. The point is that studying the content well is very, very important.

Sarvesh Mehtani, AIR 1 (IIT JEE Advanced 2017) Additional input

I would add one thing. Many a times during IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation, for solving math’s especially. One book is not good enough for all the chapters. So for that, we should ask our peers or the teacher which is the best book for this chapter or topic – especially for solving Math or find out books recommended by IIT Toppersbooks recommended by IIT Toppers. In this way, study one book for one specific topic rather than studying many books for one specific topic. If you refer to one book for one topic, its better.

In conclusion:

Ask your teacher about the book to be followed for a particular subject or topic. In certain subjects a single book may not suffice (as Sarvesh suggested), but for a certain subject there might be a single book which covers all topics comprehensively. If there are multiple suggestions from multiple teachers, ask your peers and find out the books recommended by IIT Toppers and shortlist one book for one topic. Do not confuse yourself with multiple books for one topic during IIT JEE Main and Advanced Preparation.

World Poetry Day – A Time to Rhyme

By |Categories: Blog|Tags: |

World Poetry Day declared by UNESCO as a day of reciting, teaching, writing and publishing poetry.

Ancient Poetry

Through history, human race has been characterized by different cultural traces. On one side, human beings have shown a remarkable tendency to violence; so history has witnessed several violent events such as world wars and extermination campaigns carried out by some people or countries. On the other hand, people have also shown a great inclination to reflect beauty and darkness of human nature through artistic expressions such as theater and literature. One of the most highlighted aspects of literature is poetry. It has been presented in human history since ancient times. The earliest surviving great work of literature was called “The Epic of Gilgamesh” written around 4000 years ago.

Poetry as way of human expression

People have always loved poetry and it has been taken into the popular taste for several years. With a high number of poets in human history and recognition by organizations such as The Nobel Prize which is awarded on yearly basis, Poetry is considered one of the most important forms of art which allows people to reach a great level of comfort and aesthetic in their troublesome life.

Originally, Poetry day was celebrated on October 5th in remembrance of the birthday of Roman Epic Poet Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) who flourished under the reign of Augustus. Some countries celebrated this day on October 15th, but in some other places celebration happened in November.

UNESCO Recognizes World Poetry Day

Giving the importance of this art, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the 30th session held in Paris in 1999 took the decision to establish March 21st as World Poetry Day. It was a way to recognize this artistic expression as one of the highest manifestation of human creation. Reasons to take this decision were to fulfill the provision of aesthetic needs in society which were previously unfulfilled. The number of poets was increasing and poetry observed a revival at the time. World Poetry Day decision was also to fulfill the social need of returning young people to their roots and the new role poets were taking and have been taking in society in the last few decades. Furthermore, other reasons to establish World Poetry Day were the recognition of poetry as part of ancestral values and also as a return to ‘speech’ as a means of socializing. Additional reasons were to give this expression of art its rightful place in society.

Events are held worldwide on World Poetry Day since the year of recognition of this art form. Poetry readings occur in cafes, schools, bookstores, universities, and even Internet. Also, the promotion of teaching poetry and the relation of this art with other artistic expressions such as theater, dance, music, and painting is an important activity done on this day.

What is the Vernal Equinox? Is it an important Event?

By |Categories: Blog|Tags: , , , |

The world is full of amazing things and phenomenon. From the rising of the sun to the riping of the crops, from the stars to the moon and from the revolution of the earth around the sun, to the earth’s gravity. Everything adds wonder to this amazing world. One such phenomenon is the Equinox. Here we will specially talk about the Vernal Equinox.

Insight on the Phenomenon of Equinox – equal day and night

Equinox is a time when the duration of day is equal to the night. In other words we have equal day and night hours on this day. In winters the nights are longer and in summers the days are longer. But, whenever the sun is exactly above the equator, that is, the imaginary line which divides the earth into two equal halves, the phenomenon of equinox occurs. This happens only on 20-21 March and 22-23 September and these days are known equinoxes.

Vernal Equinox or Spring Equinox

The timing of the Vernal Equinox is around March 21. Generally, the March Equinox is also called as the Spring Equinox. After this day, there are longer days and shorter nights and the spring season starts. The Vernal Equinox is celebrated, mainly in the villages, because this is the time when their crop flourishes and their revenue increases. This will usually be the best time of the year for farmers.

The term ‘Vernal’ refers to fresh or new. The Vernal Equinox is welcomed warmly as it the season when food is grown and there is greenery all around. In some religions, the Vernal Equinox is considered sacred and viewed with respect. Some believe it will serve them with more wealth if the day is welcomed warmly.

Different Celebrations on Vernal Equinox

Egypt built great sphinx to symbolize the Vernal Equinox. The Christians celebrate the Easter soon after the start of the Vernal Equinox. Indians celebrate Baisakhi or Holi. There is celebration with flowers in different countries to welcome the spring. In short, the Vernal Equinox is welcomed all around the world by celebrating different festivals.

There are also some myths that are attached to the Vernal Equinox. Some people relate it to the balancing of eggs. But the truth is that the Vernal Equinox has nothing to do with egg balancing or it does not involve any other magical phenomenon. It’s just a natural process for seasonal change.
