Though the IITs have gained national fame, getting through the entrance exams for them requires rigorous hard work. Since the past decade, there are many private and deemed universities that offer engineering courses that are claimed to be even better than IIT. The details of 5 such famous universities are discussed below in no particular order.

  1. Anna University

Anna University is located in Chennai and has 13 colleges under it. It has been ranked A by NAAC and is UGC approved.

  • Eligibility: For UG courses candidates must have passed class 12 from a recognized board and for PG they should have a degree with at least 50% marks from any authorized university.
  • Admission procedure: The admissions are based on merit list

  1. Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is situated in Kolkata. This university has 5 affiliated colleges. The university is UGC approved and has NAAC ranking A.

  • Eligibility: The candidates applying in the UG and PG courses should have 50% score in class 12 and Graduation respectively.
  • Admission procedure: For UG courses admission is done on the basis of score of WEBJEE. The score of GATE counts for PG courses.

  1. NIT Rourkela

NIT Rourkela is a deemed university. It offers around 46 UG and PG courses for the engineering applicants.

  • Eligibility: The students who have qualified JEE Mains are eligible for counseling.
  • Admission procedure: The admission and seat allotment is done on the basis of score in the JEE Mains exam by JoSSA.
  • Facilities: The university colleges have library, cafeteria, hostel, sports complex, gym, hospital facilities, Wi-Fi campus, AC rooms, labs and transport facilities for the students. There are other skill development options like music and dance, for the interested.
  1. VIT University

This deemed university is located in Vellore. It has NAAC ranking A and is also UGC approved.

  • Eligibility: For UG courses, candidates must be born on or after July 1, 1997. They must have an aggregate of 70% in the intermediate. For PG courses, 60% marks are required from a recognized institute.
  • Admission procedure: The admission into the university is based on the score in VITEEE (VIT Engineering Entrance Exam).
  • Facilities: The university colleges have library, cafeteria, hostel, sports complex, gym, hospital facilities, Wi-Fi campus, AC rooms, labs and transport facilities for the students.
